Coconuts are considered on the most naturally widespread fruit trees in the world, and as a food has a plethora of uses. The raw white meat within (referred to as the kernel) has a firm texture and sweet flavor that can be eaten raw or used as an ingredient in countless dishes. Coconut milk and coconut oil can also be extracted, the latter of which is a healthier alternative to other vegetable-based cooking oils.
