Ambrogi Kids Program
The “Ambrogi Kids School Product Partner” program is dedicated to enhancing the functioning and objectives of K-12 food service operations. Overseen by a former director of K-12 School Food Service, our team offers robust support to various federally funded school meal initiatives, ensuring they meet their stringent nutritional and regulatory standards.
The “Buy American Provision” by the USDA mandates that foods purchased must be 100% from the U.S. to bolster the economy and help small and local businesses. Exceptions to this rule are allowed if the product isn’t available in enough quantity, the quality isn’t satisfactory, or if the domestic product is significantly more expensive. The “Ambrogi Kids School Produce Partner” program annually lists key commodities used in K-12 food services, their sources throughout the year, and reasons for any non-domestic sourcing.
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federal initiative that supplies elementary schools with free fresh fruits and vegetables, aiming to introduce a diverse array of fresh produce to children during their school day. The “Ambrogi Kids School Produce Partner” program enhances this effort by designing monthly menus that highlight seasonal and cost-effective commodities, with a special emphasis on locally sourced produce whenever it’s available. In addition to menu planning, the program offers an extensive selection of customizable nutrition education materials, which are designed to enrich the students’ learning experience and encourage healthy eating habits that align with the fresh offerings provided by the FFVP.
